FAQS
AT9 is a highly creative and imaginative graphic test for adolescents and adult.
The aesthetic aspect of drawing is not taken into consideration with this test. Its role is to analyze the way an individual gathers symbols together in order to understand how their imaginative world functions.
TIn 1970, Yves Durand was drawn to the work of his professor Dr. Gilbert Durand, (philosopher). He built this test from the inspiration of several myths and symbols.
Gilbert Durand was influenced by the structuralism of Levi-Strauss and Jungian's concept of the collective unconscious. Symbols were classified in order to identify the organization of the imaginary in such way that it gives us insight into understanding how the dynamics of the imagination in an individual unfolds.
Chantal Desmoulins has standardized this test from her personal observations that were recorded during the administration of the AT9 to patients. These observations are cross referenced through the integration of the patient's drawing with their story. From the data gathered, she is able to interpret the way one's individual symbolic imaginary structure operates and how it could influenced subconsciously their whole life, including their learning process to their personal relationships. In her opinion, the knowledge of the symbolic reasoning is a key point to an individual's growth and is particulary successful in helping an adolescent find their identity.
Although this test is not well-known, it is a significant method to help establish a real and true contact with adolescents especially when verbal communication is difficult. The ability of the test to connect to our collective knowledge helps to build a bridge between generations.
This test allows us to understand that the process of symbolization is not chaotic and validates that there is structure around which the imaginary is attracted. Through this test we discover how the individuals view reality and how they confront the anxiogenic aspect of their life while simultaneously attempting to bring a resolution to the anxiety they experience. The test focuses more on the organization of the archetypes rather than the archetype itself.
You will analyze the data gathered through this program with respect to the rule of confidentiality. You will share your observation with your patients and from that you'll elaborate your therapeutic process.
The AT9 test is appropriate for administration to children older than 10 years, adolescents and adults. This test has the greatest impact and is most beneficial for the adolescent.
