CAP - Psycho Emotional Therapy
CAP Principles
The Catharsis Application Program is based on the idea that art is a means of symbolic communication and that drawings serve as a conduit to uncovering emotional patterns and/or inner conflicts. Art can generate a roadmap to possible resolution for both the therapist and suffering individual. Incorporating artistic expression in a structured and organized manner while combining it with psychotherapeutic interpretation can more rapidly and efficiently help those experiencing the results of living in a violent environment, lack of love, deprivation in education, addiction, separation, loss, or unable to express themselves as a result of a trauma. CAP can be used effectively in tandem with any other therapy to reinforce the effectiveness of treatment.
Patricia Touron - Psychiatric Nurse THE 4 PRINCIPLES OF THE CAP THERAPEUTIC SYSTEM 1. Receptive Music Induction The musical selections in the Catharsis Application Program are based on specific universal archetypes which resonate with each individual’s own “inner music.” It stimulates and encourages exploration of universal human experiences. The music allows listeners to break through mental barriers without setting off instinctual self-protection mechanisms. CAP music was composed and recorded through improvisation. It is a single work of music. As studies have shown, the spontaneous nature of music is of undeniable importance in therapy with musical induction. The music was not composed with the intention of creating a certain effect on listeners, and is “non-conditioning.” The musical continuity in the program allows for an extension of thought and emotional expression conducive to a deep psychotherapeutic work. 2. Graphic Expression Graphic expression is as effective with children, adolescents and adults. It is an efficient and very powerful media for addressing a wide range of emotional issues. Imagery: • addresses deep core issues unobtrusively and helps patients in overcoming their resistance to change • helps patients to recover by providing them with the necessary tools to live their lives responsibly • goes beyond patient’s self-defenses without forcing change • enriches creativity and stimulating the expression of repressed emotions and feelings • elicits constructive feelings, imagination, and creative intelligence. 3. Pre and post evaluation Subjective test such as projective tests, questionnaires and evaluation scales, self-assessment questionnaire designed for children, adolescents or adults are administered during the pre and post evaluation (Session 1 & Session 12). We offer a wide range of tests among which the therapist can choose the most suitable for the person, condition or mental challenges. 4. Comprehensive Analysis of Drawings, Comments & data A detailed analysis of the drawings helps to explore the magical and meaningful world of symbols and archetypes. And CAP goes a step further in three ways: Patients comments about the session are analyzed for content and reference. Not only is the patient drawing analyzed but all drawings made during the therapeutic cycle are analyzed as a group. The set of tests given prior to the therapeutic cycle and afterward help show standardized evidence of change beyond the patient's verbalization. The final assessment offers valuable observations and insights to the therapist or professional staff. All the information collected during the CAP Process can be utilized to modify or enhance therapeutic goals for every patient in a very individualized way. Using CAP as an artistic mediation gives the patient the opportunity to become an active participant in their own progression. Music and drawings will serve as an intermediate language between patient and practitioner creating a relationship of authentic communication. This communication is achieved through creativity by encouraging the patient to express their emotions in a non verbal manner. The opportunity to monitor a patient’s progress sequentially over the course of the program is very reassuring for the practitioner, especially when encountering a patient with challenges to therapy. When therapeutic gains seem to stall, CAP is a good methodology to use. Change in the therapeutic process creates a 'Window' of new opportunity and help the client to go from disengagement to engagement again: CAP can be integrated at any stage of therapy. It gives therapist the ability to assist their patient in unraveling blockages that can inhibit personal growth.
